Celebration of International Day of the Midwife 2026 at Sree Abirami College of Nursing

Midwives are an important group of health workers in providing safe motherhood for women from their pregnancy till after delivery. Sree Abirami College of Nursing, Coimbatore commemorated the International Midwives’ Day on 5th May 2026 at the Nursing Auditorium to commemorate their valuable contribution towards maternal and pediatric health care.

The function was arranged by the Department of Obstetric and Gynecology Nursing (OBG), and the students from various programs took part in the program through participation in interesting academic competitions.

Honouring the Contribution of Midwives

International Midwives Day is celebrated all around the globe to appreciate the commitment of midwives in caring for women and babies. It was decided by the Department of Obstetric and Gynecological Nursing that some activities should be organized so that the students can realize the importance of midwives in today’s medical practice.

It was arranged at 11:00 AM in the Nursing Auditorium wherein the enthusiasm of the students from various nursing streams was witnessed.

Slogan and Speech Competitions Highlight the Celebration

The participation of the students was high during the competition for slogans, with 23 students creating slogans on midwifery and maternal care. This activity made the participants create powerful messages through powerful slogans.

Slogan Competition Encourages Creativity

The slogan competition was participated in actively by students, where 23 students came up with creative slogans about midwifery and maternity care. This exercise encouraged the participants to use strong expressions to convey their message effectively.

Speech Competition Enhances Communication Skills

A total of 15 students from the programmes of GNM, B.Sc. Nursing and M.Sc. Nursing participated in this speech competition. The speeches were very educational, where the participants shared their views about the roles, problems, and contributions of the midwives to healthcare.

This was an avenue for the students to improve their public speaking abilities and also increase their knowledge on mother and child health services.

Promoting Awareness and Professional Learning

The competitions not only promoted creativity and communication but also fostered an understanding of the importance of midwives in caring for mothers and newborns.

The students had the opportunity to discuss the significance of compassionate care, professional duty and midwifery’s role in community health during their participation. The programme demonstrated the institution’s dedication towards nurturing Academic excellence and professional awareness for the future health care providers.

Recognizing Outstanding Performances

In order to recognize the efforts of the participants, the best two performers (in each competition category) were awarded with medals and certificates for their outstanding performance.

Furthermore, each participant was awarded a certificate of participation as a form of appreciation for participating, being enthusiastic and dedicated to the event. This recognition encouraged students to further enhance their skills and knowledge in the nursing and health care sector.

A Successful Celebration of Midwifery Excellence

The International Day of the Midwife Celebration 2026 ended on a positive note with thank you messages from the participants to the management and faculty for the continuous support and encouragement extended throughout the day.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing recognized the assistance and guidance given during the event and how much it helped in making the event successful. This programme was an excellent opportunity to recognize the contributions made by midwives and encourage the students of nursing to uphold the ideals of quality healthcare.

This shows the dedication of Sree Abirami College of Nursing towards nurturing professional nurses, increasing healthcare awareness, and recognizing the importance of each and every individual who contributes towards the welfare of mothers and their babies.
